Teaching Developmental Mathematics Students

Approximately 80% of freshmen in junior colleges, and a large number of those in senior colleges, require Math remediation before taking college-level Math courses. As a result, students are often discouraged by past failures and most college faculty do not know how to effectively re-engage them.

The FYMM program makes a difference in improving instruction and is a great resource for high schoolers, GED preparation and community education initiatives. The highly structured, inquiry-based conversations guide students to understand the historical development of Mathematic operations and the Real Number System.

Professor Allen has proven to Mathematics faculty that, when given the appropriate foundation, "under prepared" students can succeed in basic and college-level Mathematics courses.

Adult Learning

The Free Your Mathematical Mind program assumes students have already been “exposed” to the basics of arithmetic and perhaps, algebra and geometry. Consequently, the program is not intended for young children.
